About This Site

This site will primarily be where I share information about Marion, Ohio, veterans. My main subjects were D Company, of the Ohio National Guard, who were mustered into federal service for WWI.  In researching their background, I found that many of these men were veterans of the previous Border Campaign. I will also be interjecting information of other Marion, Ohio, veterans from other eras as I go.

Much of the information about D Company, was posted chronologically, so you may want to use the “Archives” to follow along. You can also use “Categories,” to find subjects of interest. I recommend you “Follow” at the bottom of the page to get e-mail notifications of newly posted articles. It is not necessary to sign-up with WordPress.com, but this may give you a better visualization of the articles.

I will use newspaper articles to help the reader better relate to the time period and what the local residents of Marion, may have been feeling as they followed the news of the time. There will also be links to more information on people, places and events of the time, if readers are interested in more detail.

The blog has now evolved into more articles about those veterans found on the local Honor Rolls. These veterans died during the various wars of our country. Some information on the veterans was very sparse, so the articles read like an obituary. For others, I was able to find a lot of interesting information to share.

I also hope to add articles about veterans who survived the wars. Not all veterans served during times of war, yet they made sacrifices during their service. I also want to tell their stories. There will be interviews that I conduct and add to the blog as well.

I hope you enjoy these local history articles and most of all think about what our veterans sacrificed to serve our country.

Note: I Do Not represent any Veteran organizations. I will not ask for any money. It is a one man show, but contributors are welcome and can be recognized for their contributions.
